About Dr. Martell

Christopher Martell, Ph.D., ABPP (He, Him) is a Psychologist who is licensed in Massachusetts, New York, Vermont, Washington, and Wisconsin. He has conducted workshops in behavioral activation around the world. Dr. Martell was in practice in Seattle for 23 years. Dr. Martell now focuses on training students and professionals in behavioral activation, integrative behavioral couples therapy and cognitive-behavioral interventions.

Dr. Martell closed his practice in Seattle in 2012. Per Washington State Law records must be kept for at least 8-years following the last date of service for adult clients.. This July is the 10-year mark since Dr. Martell has closed his practice and to protect former client confidentiality and privacy as of this year 2023 all information from client records are being shredded or destroyed in compliance with security standards for destruction of electronic media and paper files.

Dr. Martell has authored several books. In 2004 he joined with Steven Safren, Ph.D. and Stacey Prince, Ph.D., and wrote Cognitive-Behavioral Therapies with Lesbian, Gay, and Bisexual Clients, published by Guilford. That same year Michael Addis and Christopher Martell wrote a client workbook for BA, Overcoming Depression One Step at a Time: The New Behavioral Activation Approach to Getting Your Life Back, published by New Harbinger. Dr. Martell’s book with Sona Dimidjian and Ruth Herman-Dunn, Behavioral Activation for Depression: A Clinician’s Guide, is now in its second edition. Dr. Martell’s books have been translated into Simplified Chinese, Danish, Dutch, French, German, Japanese, Korean, and Swediah. He has also written a number of chapters for edited books on IBCT, BA and applying these techniques with LGB individuals and couples. Please see Dr. Martell’s CV for a complete list of publications. Dr. Martell occupies his time writing, consulting on research projects and public speaking.
